Webinars for our quarterly Hosting grants include an info session and programs that focus on the nuts and bolts of realizing touring projects. Co-produced* by Laura Copelin and Lauren Leving, the specialized programs address the systems, contexts, and relationships that support successful hosting experiences and collaborations. Arts professionals of all experience levels are welcome to attend and review the post-event materials.

Hosting 101: Logistics // October 27, 2025
This session covered the practical steps of hosting, with guidance from Becky Nahom (Independent Curators International) and a case study from Kate Kraczon (formerly Brown Arts Institute & Bell Gallery, Brown University) and Cindy Sissokho (Co-Curator of the French Pavilion at the 60th edition of the Venice Biennale), with contributions from Céline Kopp, Cindy’s co-curator, on adapting Julien Creuzet’s Venice Pavilion project. Hosting 102: Establishing Positive Relationships // June 23, 2026
This session focused on tools for establishing and supporting healthy relationships when collaborating and hosting exhibitions. Daviree Velázquez Phillip (Together + Through) presented processes and prompts for building intentional and effective working agreements. Natalie Bell (MIT List Visual Arts Center) and Sara Cluggish (Perlman Teaching Museum, Carleton College) shared their experiences building trust, engaging audiences, and working across different teams and institutions for the exhibition Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme: Only sounds that tremble through us, which Bell organized and Cluggish hosted. Hosting 103: Tools for Conflict Resolution // October 27, 2026 at 2pm ET
This webinar focuses on navigating the conflicts that can arise when curators host exhibitions that originated elsewhere. Hosting exhibitions requires collaboration—within and between institutions, and among curators, artists, and program partners—and almost always involves differences in resources, priorities, expectations, and communication styles.Building on Hosting 102 (recording below), which focused on establishing intentional and productive relationship agreements, Hosting 103 offers curators and their teams ways to recognize, normalize, and navigate conflict. Led by consultant and coach Daviree Velázquez Phillip (Together + Through), the webinar will explore how conflict can be an opportunity to strengthen communication, repair relationships, and cultivate trust within and across institutions.
Through a presentation and conversation guided by Phillip; a case study of a conflict in the context of hosting an exhibition; and a Q&A, participants will reflect on their own and their institution’s capacity for conflict and repair and learn practical tools for conflict resolution and de-escalation that may also be applied to collaborations within the workplace more generally.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own experiences of conflict related to hosting and touring exhibitions as material for discussion and reflection. The organizers ask that all examples be anonymized, and the Q&A portion of the program will not be recorded.

Sustainable Practices for Touring Exhibitions // November 3, 2025
The session framed Hosting as inherently sustainable, focusing on how early planning can further advance sustainability goals and help you reduce emissions and waste. Alexa Steiner (Rute Collaborative) shared approaches to policy, partnerships, materials, and shipping, among other topics. Alex Klein (The Contemporary Austin) and Robert Chaney (ICA Philadelphia) reflected on the choices that shaped Carl Cheng: Nature Never Loses as it traveled.
